At BHLM, we truly believe that families should have safe spaces to go in their local community, to have relatable adult conversations.
In January 2022, we launched “Mummy Mind’s.” We wanted free groups for caregivers to bring their children/babies; spaces that were clean, safe, and nurturing. All groups are led by a trained BHLM ‘Heart,’ who volunteers their time to provide this service.
These groups will suit you if:
You want to get out the house with OR without your baby, child or young person. Everyone is welcome!
You want to have an adult conversation.
You have a worry/concern about your family or/and want to talk it over, or be signposted for support.
You want your children, toddler or babies to play, interact with other people, and have fun.
You want to catch up with friends, or to meet new people.
You want to learn more about BHLM, our resources, classes or support.
As a non-profit organisation, we have created non-judgemental, supportive and kind spaces to welcome you, whether you are “surviving” or “thriving.”
Everyone needs someone to relate to.
why we do it
During an inquiry into the health & well-being of children and young people in January 2022, The Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee heard evidence from a number of professionals from several statutory and third sector organisations (watch it here).
The key points came from the first 10 minutes:
Take the pressure off statutory services by supporting in the community.
Address stigma and shame.
Promote healthy behaviours in families early on, eg provide positive strategies for stress management.
In February 2022, an Inquiry was published into Perinatal Mental Health (read it here) and this discussed the waiting times for statutory services. It goes on to state that families have found third sector organisations a lifeline in regards to providing support, whilst statutory services have a lengthy wait. We completely understand our services are stretched to their limits; we want to support caregivers and their families well-being by educating, informing and simply being a face-to-face contact.
